Personas Hondureñas: Meet Eduar Reyes, Honduras Assistant Director

Meet Eduar Reyes, Honduras Assistant Director

“I was born in Yoro. I lived with my brother and my parents, but my father got ill. We couldn’t continue living in the city because he couldn’t work and we didn’t have enough money. We decided to move to the village of Siete de Abril where my grandmother, Pastora, and my uncles lived. My father was able to recover and get a job there. We lived there for eight years, and it was hard to live there. We did not have much money. The houses were poorly built, dark, made of nylon, cloth, and mud. I also had to walk about an hour to get to school. Then, SHH gave us the opportunity to build a house in Villa Soleada and move to have a better life. There were many gangs in our neighborhood and a nearby river made life very dangerous in Siete de Abril. Since I moved to Villa, I had better educational opportunities and a better quality of life. Now, I am 21 years old, married, and have graduated from high school. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work for the organization and have a better future. I am building my own house made out of cement blocks with a beautiful porch. I would have never imagined having the opportunity to do so. Now, I can provide a better life for my family and future children.”
